Who Was Pablo Picasso? Meet the Revolutionary Artist Who Changed the Art World
4.8 out of 5 Pablo Picasso was born on October 25, 1881, in Málaga, Spain. His father, José Ruiz y Blasco, was an art teacher, and his mother, María Picasso y López, was a devout Catholic. From an early age, Picasso displayed an extraordinary talent for drawing and painting. By the age of 14, he had already mastered the traditional techniques of academic painting. In 1900, Picasso moved to Paris, the heart of the art world. He initially struggled financially, but soon gained recognition for his evocative paintings of blue-tinted figures, which became known as his "Blue Period." In 1907, Picasso collaborated with Georges Braque to develop Cubism, a revolutionary style that broke down forms into geometric shapes. In 1904, Picasso's palette brightened and his subjects became more optimistic, marking the beginning of his "Rose Period." He also began to incorporate elements of African art into his work, which influenced his development of Cubism. In 1937, Picasso created one of his most famous and powerful works, "Guernica." This monumental painting depicts the horrors of war and was inspired by the bombing of the Basque town of Guernica by Nazi Germany. "Guernica" is a masterpiece of anti-war art and has become a symbol of the suffering caused by conflict. Throughout his prolific career, Picasso experimented with various styles and techniques, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, and printmaking. He is considered one of the most influential artists of the 20th century and his work continues to inspire and challenge generations of artists and art lovers alike. Picasso died on April 8, 1973, at the age of 91, leaving behind a vast and enduring legacy. The Early Life of a Prodigy
